~ “In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.” ~ That Pale Blue Dot is our home. There’s no doubt about that. However, we don’t treat it like that. Do we really show affection to our home? Don’t get me wrong a lot of us do, but a number of us don’t see that this is all we have. We mustn’t destroy what was given to us. There is no one else that can help. It’s just us. The human species. We are predators of ourselves. Simply pull out a gun and in 2 seconds, we lose a being. Does this satisfy those who want to be known as the best? The things that people do hurt. Physically and mentally. Suicide, self harm, and so much more. The world isn’t a place to toy around with people’s feelings, but it is a place to stop for a minute and ask if he/she is ok. That is what we were brought here to do, from what I believe. Yes, we make mistakes. Yes, we don’t make the best choices. We aren’t perfect, but we can learn from it. Do we though? I don’t think so. There are millions of us walking around with knives and guns. We’ve seen the news, heard the radio, talked about it but, no one seems to stop. Even children. With their silly fights; “She/he didn’t play with me” or “She/he isn’t a good friend”. Is this what we want our children to become? Sure, they are petty arguments but if they can’t learn to get along at a young age, imagine what they’ll be like when they grow up. Once again, not everyone. Just a few. We are all brothers and sisters. We share this world. For centuries we have been trying to create peace. Little has been done. Israel and Palestine are fighting for land. I understand that there are useful recourses but why can’t they share? The world is just a dot. Your problems are nothing compared to that Pale Blue Dot. Once you see how big the world really is, your problems will be the least of your worries. We can change, it may take more time but we can work together and achieve what we want. First, we should change our attitudes, be calm and stop harming each other. We will slowly grow from there. ~ “Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself.” ~ Leo Tolstoy

If I Could Take Home One Artwork I Saw At The Vancouver Art Gallery,Which One Would It Be? Why?1/31/2019 The Vancouver Art Gallery was an amazing place to go for a field trip. It was a great experience to go with my friends and go on a tour. I saw many amazing artworks, paintings sculptures, etc. I was really attracted to the abstract paintings because, they don't have a specific meaning to an image. It was the artist way of expressing how they feel without making and image is what I think. One abstract painting caught my eye in particular. I am pretty sure it was done by Jackson Pollock. I am sure that the name of it was Lavander Mist. I will have a picture for it. I'm not sure about anyone else but when I was looking at the right half of it, it was telling me a story of a village. Villagers were working in a farm with animals. On the left side, I saw a jungle with a tiger and a bear. It might've been the colours positioning that made me see it but I thought it was amazing! This is one reason I would take it home. I also really liked they way he painted it. Our tour guide told us that he makes swatches with his paintbrush, then he pours paint on his canvas and walks across it and does a bunch of other weird things to make it very abstract. This is why I find his way of painting very unique. The colours were dark but bold and I just enjoyed looking at it. My friend said to me that it looked like a war or battle was going on and there were bodies on the floor as well as soldiers. This painting has changed the way I look at art. It was all about using my imagination. It's amazing what people see because different people see different things because our minds are different. Jackson Pollock does a lot of abstract art and I like looking at his work and using my imagination to try and understand what the picture is trying to say.
When I look across the deep blue sea, I notice the marine life swimming about. I notice the coral reefs brightening up the ocean and I notice the seaweed moving around. Suddenly, my eyes dart across the ocean. It isn't a deep blue colour anymore. It's a pile of brown gunk. Then I see it. I see the large island like object floating in the ocean. It's The Great Pacific Garbage Patch. The one environmental hazard I despite of is The Great Pacific Garbage Patch. The garbage patch is a large patch of garbage floating in the ocean. From what I've read, it's 2 times the size of Texas! This gargantuan patch was created by non other then humans. That's right, we've done it again. This is a man made situation. I would choose to get rid of the patch because not only does it affect us, it affects the marine life just as much. Sometimes, when animals are swimming, the come across the patch and garbage starts to fall on them and they eventually get tangled in it. Some animals chew their way out of the garbage but soon after die because they consume the plastic, tin foil, wrappers, etc. These items include toxic chemicals, especially plastic. Also, its very hard to eat, chew and swallow it. Also, humans don't benefit from this garbage mess because, it pollutes the ocean and may intoxicate it. Sometimes, garbage floats up to beaches where we do a lot of swimming and the trash may get stuck on our bodies. For us, it isn't such a big deal, where as we can pick it off of our bodies and throw it away and animals can't. How can we get rid of The Great Pacific Garbage Patch? How do we push it away? Well, first and foremost, QUIT LITTERING! If we can reduce the amount of litter we produce and throw on the floor, the patch will not continue to grow. However, if we continue our bad habits and out our trash where it doesn't belong, the patch will increase its size. I don't exactly know how to get rid of The Great Pacific Garbage Patch. That patch is what we started so we must end it. Action must be taken place at once. Every small thing we do to destroy the patch, brings us one step closer to figure out how to demolish it. We must work together. Who knows, maybe our ocean will be a garbage flood one day. |
