Would You Like To Live In The Giver Society? Novel by: Louis Lowry
The Giver is an interesting book. The life that they are living is very different compared to what we are living in. I don't think I would want to live in The Giver's society because, their childhood lasts for only 11 years because once they are 12, they start adulthood. They get jobs at a young age and have many responsibilities. You also don't get to go to high school or collage which I think is a huge part of your life. We get many privileges starting at birth. Fancy clothes, many toys, etc. For The Giver's society, they get certain things at certain ages, for example, bicycles are given to the 9 years old. Here, in our society, children start to learn to ride bikes when they are 4 or 5. For us to quit our current lifestyle and be restricted would be unbelievably difficult. Strict rules must be followed. I'm not saying that we don't follow strict rules but we can do a few things they can't. Even though lying isn't the best choice, we still do it but Jonah and the others, they cannot lie at all. However, he did get the privilege to lie when he got to be the receiver which was interesting. I also don't like the fact that you have to share your dreams every morning. I feel that some dreams are private, similar to the one Jonah had. (I've ever had one but it's just an example) Some people are not comfortable with sharing what they dreamt about which is why in our society, you aren't forced to. Another thing, everyone has a hope or a dream when they grow up. "I want to be a doctor", or "I want to be a firefighter", and a lot more, however, in The Giver, you don't get a choice. You are given a job and whether you like it or not, you have to do it. They watch over you and see what you do, how you act, etc, and if you make one mistake then they give you a job that will be easier. So, in conclusion, there are many cons to live in The Giver society, but I'm sure there are just as many pros. This is just my opinion and I hoped you enjoyed reading it.
