Welcome to my Book Review page. Here I will talk about a couple books I read. I will upload a book review very month.
~THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ISLAND~ BY: ALLEGRA GOODMAN Pages ~ 180 + 1 page of authors note
This was a very interesting story. Looking at it, you might think that "The Other Side Of The Island", hmmm, what's so interesting about that? I thought the same thing. I wasn't interested in it. My friend convinced me to read it and so I did. The beginning was quite boring. But, it was different. I didn't like it at first, as I expected, but towards the ending I really started liking it. The main characters name is Honor. She has to move with her parents to Island 365 which is located in the Tranquil Sea. The rules are very different there. You must follow all of them. You have to pray to Earth Mother and a bunch of other things. Unfortunately, Honor's parents don't follow the rules. They ignore curfew, and don't pray to Earth Mother and they had a second child. Having a second child was Not Allowed. When Honor goes to school, she realises she doesn't fit in. Because her name starts with "H" she is in the year where everyone's names start with H. Her name is a big problem because it doesn't sound like it starts with and H. One day, her parents suddenly disappear! What happened to them and what will happen to Honor and her baby brother? Will she find her parents?
~THE GIRL WHO OWNED A CITY~ BY: O.T. NELSON Pages ~ 181
The Girl Who Owned A City was an amazing story about survival. It was a different style of book for me, however I did enjoy it. I did see that one or two parts in the book were quite predictable but I was able to visualise everything as I read it and I didn't get bored; I always wanted to keep reading. I think I give this book a 4.5/5 because although it was a different style, this book helped he read more books like this one. A deadly plague has killed everyone over the ages of twelve all around the world. A world without adults may seem fun to some kids. For others, it's scary. The reality is that a world without adults leaves all the children clueless. Stores are closed, factories stop producing food and electricity disappears. Can the kids learn to make everything work? Its a possibility but that requires everyone to cooperate. That's like asking for kids all around the world (over 2 billion kids) or everyone in your neighborhood to make things easier. Lisa and Todd Nelson (main characters) create a militia to get food from factories and defend themselves from other gangs. Will they be able to survive? Read The Girl Who Owned A City to find out.
~WILDWOOD ~ BY: COLIN MELOY AND ILLUSTRATED BY: CARSON ELLIS Pages ~ 541
Wildwood is one of my all time favourite books. I don't usually enjoy fantasy stories but I really did like this one. This book is great for people who love to read longer stories. Wildwood has pages full of illustrations. There are only a few, however they are very detailed and gorgeous. I do have to say that some parts were unnecessary, which is why I am giving 4.5/5. Prue, (the main character), took her baby brother, Mac, to the park. Soon after, a murder of crows abducts him and takes him to a strange forest called the Impassible Wilderness. Prue sets out to find her baby brother. She is accompanied by her friend and classmate, Curtis. He is bewildered the by what happened. Days go by and Prue and Curtis are still looking. A lot of crazy and strange things are happening. What is happening though? While they find Mac? If they do, will he be dead or alive? Do you want to know? If so, read Wildwood to find out.
